THE HOUSE OF RAIN
Recently I have finished the concept for "The house of rain", a small house in Hamar, Norway (190 m2). As with many of my houses, it can be said that this one consists really of a series of garden spaces with varying degrees of insulation. I began here by imagining the entire site as a cluster of indoor and outdoor rooms that make use of the entire site where it lies between the gardens of neighbouring houses. To the north is an entrance garden, which is enclosed by walls made of board-formed concrete. This space offers an immediate transition from the character of the street, and becomes also a private outdoor room with both morning and afternoon sun. At the centre of the house is the semi-enclosed atrium with a rain pond, which I wrote about last time. To the south is a small greenhouse which becomes an extension of the living room.
